Simona Halep became the first Romanian to win Wimbledon when she beat Serena Williams 6-2 6-2 on Saturday (13 July).
It was the 11th Wimbledon final for Williams. It was the first for Halep, but Halep made the new opportunity count, becoming the first Romanian player to win a singles title at the All England Club.

Serena Williams, who was seeking to equal the all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, but the American was not at the races and Halep won in straight sets to win first Wimbledon title.
