Train rams into Auto Van at unauthorised railway crossing in Assam; one dead

Kohima, March 11 (NEx): The Train engine of the Silchar – Agartala Express special (05664) rammed into an Auto Van in an unauthorized track-crossing while entering the Nilambazar Station under Karimganj district in Assam at 11:30 hrs today.

The driver of the auto van lost his life although no train passenger was injured in the incident. The train was entering the Nilambazar station on proper signal, suddenly, the auto van tried to cross the track through the unauthorized track-crossing leading to the accident. As a result of the accident, the train was also detained for about 30 minutes, Northeast frontier railway informed.

Railway officials reached the spot immediately on receipt of the information. Railway authority has lodged an FIR on the incident against the owner of the auto van for trespassing of railway tracks which is a punishable offence under section 147 (i) of Indian Railways Act.

The said unauthorized track-crossing in that area is said to have been closed for road vehicle movement by the railway authority in consultation with the State Govt. authorities by erecting posts for the safety of common people. But the blockades were uprooted by some miscreants for trespassing which resulted in today’s unfortunate incident.

Railway authority appealed to the common people to avoid trespassing of railway track which is very dangerous and might lead to not only death of road users but can also cause train accidents.
