Kohima, June 02 (NEx): #NortheastMatters – With rising cases of racist slur against the people of Northeast region in the country, students’ organisations and Universities from the Northeastern region of India came up with an initiative called ‘Twitter Storm’ to appeal the government of India for
inclusion of a mandatory chapter in relation to Northeast India in the NCERT textbooks.
“Starting from facial abuse to racial abuse, even to the extent of accusing us of being Chinese is not a new topic. Many incidents from the past and till today are provident enough of the negligible information that the mainland Indians have on the 8 states of Northeast India,” Nagaland University Students’ Union NUSU (L) president Hipito Achumi stated in his communique.
Organisers stated ‘Our history, ethnicity, lifestyle, personalities, natural resources and patriotism have to find a place in the NCERT textbooks.’ The virtual campaign through the micro-blogging site, Twitter is scheduled on June 04, 2021 from 06:00 pm to 07:00 pm.
Further, organisers requested each and every Northeastern people to join hands together to raise their voice against the racism and to appeal the Central Authority for inclusion of a mandatory chapter in relation to Northeast India in the NCERT textbooks, through the tweet with hash tag #AchapterforNE #NortheastMatters on June 04th.
