Meghalaya; first Covid-19 patient passes away, 6 more tested positive

Kohima, April 15 (NE): In a breaking news, first Covid-19 positive case in Meghalaya, 69-year-old doctor has died after testing positive for Covid-19. Six including family members and helpers, who were in contact with the patient also tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, April 15, 2020.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma through his official Twitter account said, ‘I am deeply saddened to inform that the first Covid-19 positive patient in Meghalaya passed away this morning at 2:45 am. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace’ – unquote.

The 69-year-old senior doctor of Bethany Hospital was tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday, April 13, 2020.

Six family members and helpers of the first Covid-19 patient also tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, CM Conrad Sangma informs.

Taking to twitter, Meghalaya Chief Minister said, ‘of the 68 tested so far, 6 have come out positive who are all family members & helpers of the first Covid-19 positive case. 6 other cases are being retested. All the rest of the cases are negative’ – unquote.

This is the second death reported due to Covid-19 in the entire Northeast region. Earlier, a Covid-19 positive patient from Assam had died.

With the fresh Covid-19 reports, the total number of positive cases in the Northeast India rose to 46, out of which, 32 from Assam, 7 from Meghalaya, two each from Manipur and Tripura, and one each from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland reported.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old woman who tested positive for Covid-19 in Manipur last month, has recovered and discharged from the hospital on Sunday.
