Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan passes away at 74; CM Rio & Dy. CM Y Patton condoles

Dimapur, October 08 (NEx): Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan who is also one of the tallest Dalit leaders in Bihar and founder of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), has passed away at the age of 74, tweets his son Chirag Paswan.

Chirag Paswan tweeted, “ are not in this world today but I know no matter where you are, you will always be with me. Miss you papa.”

Paswan was undergoing treatment at the hospital, and had recently underwent heart surgery “due to the situation that had suddenly emerged,” his son Chirag Paswan tweeted on Saturday.

The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton, Union Ministers, Government officials, people from across party lines expressed their shock over the sudden demise of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.

The president of India, Ram Nath Kovind in a tweet said, ‘In the demise of Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, the nation has lost a visionary leader. He was among the most active and longest-serving members of parliament. He was the voice of the oppressed, and championed the cause of the marginalized’.

A firebrand socialist in youth, mentored by the likes of Jayaprakash Narayan during anti-Emergency movement, Paswan ji had enviable rapport with masses and he ardently strove for their welfare. Condolences to his family and supporters, he tweeted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweets, ‘I am saddened beyond words. There is a void in our nation that will perhaps never be filled. Shri Ram Vilas Paswan Ji’s demise is a personal loss. I have lost a friend, valued colleague and someone who was extremely passionate to ensure every poor person leads a life of dignity’.

Senior Congress leader, Rahul Gandhi in his condolence tweet said, ‘The poor, downtrodden lost a strong political voice today’.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said, ‘I am shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the passing away of Union Minister Shri Ram Vilas Paswan; a stalwart leader, a seasoned politician and founder of Lok Janshakti Party. At this moment of grief, my thoughts are with his family and loved ones. May the departed soul RIP’

Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said, ‘Extremely saddened by the demise of Union Minister Shri #RamVilasPaswan Ji. In him, the people of this nation lost today a stalwart leader and the country suffered an irreparable loss. His life will keep inspiring us’.
