Muslim Educational Society (MES) have banned any dress code that covers the face for girls on all the campuses it runs -150 educational institutions.
“MES will not encourage any type of veils on its campus’’ says MES state President Fazal Gafoor on a circular on 19th April, 2019. It also stated that all the Managers of each MES institution will have to ensure that girl students do not come to the campus with their faces covered. The statement was to be included as a rule on the campus for the academic year 2019-2020.
There are 10 professional colleges, 18 arts and science colleges, 12 higher secondary and 36 CBSE affiliated schools under the MES.
Some Muslim Organizations have come up against the rule saying, ‘’Women covering their faces is part of their religion and it has been prevailing from the time of the prophet.’’
MES state President Fazal Gafoor dismissed these objections saying, ‘The high court has given the freedom to decide their dress codes. There is no need of any controversy over the issue.’
