India's COVID-19 case tally reaches 5.6 million

Kohima, September 23 (NEx): India recorded 83,347 new COVID-19 positive cases and 89,746 recoveries in the last 24 hours, updates the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare data.

The total case tally stands at 56,46,010 including 9,68,377 active cases. The country also recorded 1,085 more deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 death toll to 90,020, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare updated.

Meanwhile, so far, a total of 6,62,79,462 COVID-19 samples were tested in India till today. A total of 9,53,683 COVID-19 samples were tested on September 22, 2020, informed Union Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan.

Globally, in terms of number of COVID-19 positive cases, India stands at number two, while US is at the top of the table with more than 6.97 million total cases and close to 2.03 lakh deaths from COVID-19. Brazil is at the third spot with 4.59 million total cases and over 1.38 lakh deaths.
