India suspends all flights to and from UK over a new strain of Coronavirus

The MoS, I/C, Civil Aviation, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri,  yesterday, announced that all flights to and from the United Kingdom will be suspended temporarily from 23.59 hours, December 22nd till December 31st, 2020

Kohima, December 22 (NEx): Along with many other countries, India has also temporarily suspended all flights to and from the United Kingdom from December 22nd till December 31st, 2020, over reports of a new strain of coronavirus rapidly growing and spreading in UK.

The department of health and family welfare, GoI on December 21st, has suggested the Ministry of civil aviation for temporary suspension of flights from UK in light of the report of a distinct phylogenetic cluster of SARs-CoV-2 been detected, which has been spreading and growing rapidly in the UK.

Meanwhile, the MoS, I/C, Civil Aviation, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, yesterday, announced that all flights to and from the United Kingdom will be suspended temporarily from 23.59 hours, December 22nd till December 31st, 2020 (23.59 hours).

The minister stated that the Government has decided to take all necessary precautions as a result of the situation arising out of the spread of a new strain of coronavirus in UK by suspending the flights temporarily. However, this restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA, he said.

Further, it said that the airlines operating flights to India from other countries shall not board any passenger travelling from UK to India and shall ensure that no passenger coming from UK is boarded in a flight for any destination in India either directly or indirectly.

As a measure of precaution, passengers arriving from UK in all transit flights (flights that have taken off or flights which are reaching India before December 22nd, 2020 at 23:59 hrs) should be subject to mandatory RT-PCR test at the arrival port in India. The passengers found Covid-19 positive on arrival shall be quarantined as per guidelines issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and would bear the medical costs incurred.

Many countries like Russia, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Canada, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia Ireland, Belgium etc has temporarily suspended flights to and from the UK for the same.
