Peren, June 17 (NE): The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) along with Kuki students’ organization and Civil Society Organizations, in a circular on June sixteen declared to hold an agitation rally on June 18, 2020 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, if the state government fail to address the grievances put forth in the ultimatum, as the deadline of the ultimatum expires today.

The ZSUN submitted a seven (7) day ultimatum to the Chief Minister and Chairman High Powered Committee, Shri Neiphiu Rio, on June ten, 2020 with a charter of demands to be addressed by the state government at the earliest. Failing to meet the demands of the people of Peren within 7 days with effect from June 10, the ZSUN with CSOs will take it’s own course of action, stated the ultimatum.

Citing the 3rd June incident, where a COVID-19 positive returnee from Chennai was sent to Peren district along with 16 negative returnees, President ZSUN called it an absolute act of negligence which has put the lives of many people in peren district at immense risk. He also accused that the error of sending COVID-19 positive person along with 16 returnees violates all SOPs from the government.

Expressing disappointment and resentment over the government of Nagaland for ignoring and disregarding the appeal made by Joint Action Committee (JAC) on COVID-19 Peren district and the Student’s Union, a seven (7) day ultimatum was served to the Chief Minister cum the Chairman of the High Powered Committee (HPC) on June 10, 2020, as the government has turned deaf and blind to the representation given by the JAC on COVID-19 which is a conglomeration of NGOs, Tribal Bodies and Church Organisation.

Through the ultimatum, ZSUN along with CSOs demanded that the state government must initiate prompt actions against the erring officials and establish 100 bedded COVID hospital in the district with modern facilities at the earliest.

The Union also demanded to immediately provide adequate tools and machineries to set up makeshift ICU in the district hospital and post adequate staffing to man the hospital.
