Peren, June 09 (NE): Peren fiasco takes a serious turn and the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland (ZSUN) to hold a peaceful protest on June 10 in Peren district as the appeal made by the ZSUN to take action against erring official (s), fell on deaf ears.
ZSUN expressed disappointment and resentment over State Government’s inaction against the perpetrators of the unfortunate 3rd June incident where COVID-19 positive lady was sent along with 16 other returnees who were tested negative.
A press release issued by ZSUN said that in reaffirming the demand for exemplary action against the people behind the 3rd June incident and also standing firm behind the representation of the JAC, the Zeliangrong Students’ Union Nagaland decided to hold a peaceful, democratic and symbolic protest in the District on June 10, 2020.
The union was appalled that the Government accepted the lame excuse on the returnees having ‘Similar Names’ which caused such blunder and now decided to sweep the whole fiasco under the rug with no concrete enquiry or action. A simple perusal into the matter reveals that each person is assigned a Serial Number, COVID-ID , Sex and Age apart from the name, ZSUN stated.
The union called the Government deaf and blind to the representation given by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on COVID-19 Peren, which is a conglomeration of NGOs, Tribal Bodies and Church Organisations. This speaks volume of the Government’s seriousness in taking the demands and wishes of the public of Peren District.
The lack of basic medical equipments in the designated COVID hospital, and the demands for a quick redress has also yielded no positive response from the Government, but only violated the laid down Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) thus putting the lives of the public at risk, it said.
The ZSUN warned that any untoward incident arising in future, as a result of the brazen negligence of the Government of Nagaland towards the people of Peren District, the Government of the day shall be fully held responsible, it added.
