Kohima, June 05 (NE): Along with the rest of the world, Nagaland observed the World Environment Day 2020, under the theme ‘biodiversity’, today, June 05, 2020. The day was observed in all districts of Nagaland by planting saplings and creating awareness on protecting the nature.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton along with other Legislators took to social media to greet the people on the occasion of World Environment Day.
Coinciding with the World Environment Day, the Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Develop (NEPED) Kohima, Nagaland in collaboration with the Nagaland Community Conservation Area Forum (NCCAF) donated wild vegetables to the Kohima District Administration on June 05, 2020.
The Team Leader NEPED & Commissioner & Secretary, K. Libanthung Lotha stated that the donation was to showcase the important role played by the community having the Community Conservation Areas (CCAs) across Nagaland.
Along with the rest of the world Wokha district celebrated World Environment day at DC’s Public Park on June 05, 2020 on the theme “Biodiversity” organized by Wokha Forest Division and Doyang Plantation Division.
Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Orenthung Lotha while speaking on the occasion, said it is very encouraging to see young people taking active part and participating during such events and urged them to be the agents of change in spreading awareness in preserving and conserving our environment.
He also added, it is not only the domain of the Forest department alone in preserving our forest but it is the responsibility of everyone and called for community participation in preserving the forest. Due to the depletion of environment even animals are coming closer to human habitation and stated that it is time for us to give outmost care in preserving our environment for the betterment of our future generation.
Superintended of Police, Wokha, Imtitoshi said our forest is very rich with many varieties of plants and vegetation which are not found in other parts of the county but lamented that those plants are disappearing rapidly from our forest due to deforestation and called for community participation in conserving our forest. The programme ended with planting of trees at the DC’s public park.
In commemoration of World Environment day 2020 under the theme “Biodiversity”, a programme was held at District Forest office, Mokokchung on June 05, 2020. Mokokchung Forest Department observed WED on the theme, “Restoring forest, conservation and livelihood” with an initiative “Adopt a tree”.
Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir while addressing the participants on the occasion said, we need individual and community participation to conserve our environment in a way to create an equilibrium which will enable nature to restore back the human exploitations on environment. Appreciating the initiative “To adopt a tree” taken up by the Forest Department, he said the best time to plant a tree is 20 years back and the second best is today and called upon all to contribute back to nature in our own small ways.
Superintendent of Police Mokokchung, Vishal IPS and Chairman Marepkong ward spoke on the need to conserve our environment.
On the occasion, the Dept. distributed plant saplings to all the Heads of Offices (HoDs) under Mokokchung District, to be planted and adopted by the HoDs.
Kiphire Town Council (KTC) along with various NGOs and ward chairman in collaboration with the District Administration celebrated World Environment Day at Deluxe point Kiphire on June 05, 2020.
Deputy Commissioner, Sarita Yadav, IAS stated that Nagaland is gifted with so many things like beautiful landscape, water, river, forest, etc but we are destroying all the beauty of the nature by cutting down more and more trees, plants which leads to landslide and soil erosion. She urged all the leaders to plant more trees for the next generation because we never know what is going to happen in days to come.
World Environment Day celebrated at Satakha on June 05, 2020. The program was chaired by EAC Satakha, Saku Chang. Keynote address was given by T.L Kiusumong Tikhir, ADC Satakha. Heads of Offices, GBs and other stakeholders attended the program. The day was marked by a plantation drive in respective offices, colonies and churches.
In the midst of COVID-19 pandemic, the Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA), Longleng observed the “World Environment Day 2020″Conceding with the annual activities of the ‘Green Mission Day’ of the association by taking up massive plantation drive in the district by PBCA volunteers and various organization and agencies of the district.
In his message to the people the Executive Secretary of the PBCA Tialemba Phom called upon all the responsible citizens to protect, safe and care for mother nature and the environment from destruction. He lauded the DFO Longleng Biezo Soukhrie, IFS and his staff for providing saplings towards PBCA’s Green Mission initiative.
Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK), Longleng along with district Administration and District Task Force BBBP also initiated new mission called “Tree For Daughters ” to mark the World Environment Day 2020. Under this mission the MSK will be planting trees every month in every Ward to celebrate the birth of girl child starting from today. The activities of the “Tree For Daughters Mission” will be carried out under the MSK Longleng. They planted trees covering every ward of Longleng Town.
District Administration Longleng led by Deputy Commissioner and Buranamsang Students Union in collaboration with Namsang EAC circle under Tamlu sub-division also observed world environment day by planting trees. The District Executive Force (DEF) Longleng and Yingli College also observed world environment day by carrying out plantation drive.
World Environment Day 2020 was observed at Noklak Town under the theme ‘Conserve Biodiversity’ which was organised by 45 Assam Rifle, Noklak A Coy on June 05, 2020.
Speaking on the occasion, Major Anuj Mahant stated that, the region has a rich biodiversity and urged the people to continue to conserve the biodiversity and also advised all to plant trees. Taking the initiatives of the occasion, he gave his sincere appreciation to Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam (KMH), Adora Children home and all the well-wishers for participating and making the World Environment Day 2020 remarkable and successful.
With few participants, the plantation drive and programme was carried out maintaining social distancing along with all the precautions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Major Anuj Mahant also presented gifts to all the participants of Adora Children home during the short programme held at Assam Rifle camp Noklak.
