Khrielakuonuo’s guide, the medical superintendent, Dr. Kopunuo Kire is a witness of her good works throughout her life. She says that Khrielakuonuo is gifted and dedicated, her injections are less painful and people prefer her for immunization. “Khrielakuonuo deserves the award”, she added.

Sharing on her journey exclusively to NagalandExpress, Khrielakuonuo said, from a very young age, my passion was to become a nurse, and I always wanted to wear the white dress and serve patients, she added.

After she cleared matriculation, she trained to become a nurse and during her peripheral postings as a nurse her experiences were tremendous specially at Shamator Village under Tuensang district in early 1990’s. Her place of work was far, she had to walk a distance of about 30 km.

Once, out of compulsion, She performed a full delivery in the jungle at night without any equipments or tools and even had to cut the umbilical cord with a bamboo skin, as the patient could not reach the hospital on time.

During one such journey, she got onto a mini truck and the truck met an accident with another vehicle, she became unconscious, with serious injuries to her spinal cord and dislocated her hands and feet. Her father had to revive her with the water that got collected on the road potholes. Such was her experience as a nurse, narrated by her.

It’s overwhelming and encouraging to hear her story that went through so many challenges in life but with the passion to serve people, she went on. At one point of time, even her parents stopped her from continuing her career as a nurse after she met the accident, but she refused to be defeated by the injuries.

Khrielakuonuo’s story is an inspiration for today’s youth in Nagaland and beyond. As she dedicated herself in pursuit of her dream to serve people, awards and recognition for excellence follows her today. She is one among the many women who had scripted their success through hard work and dedication.

William Gerald Golding, British novelist, once said “I think women are foolish to pretend they are equal to men. They are far superior and always have been. Whatever you give a woman, she will make it greater. If you give her sperm, she will give you a baby. If you give her a house, she will give you a home. If you give her groceries, she will give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she will give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her – unquote.

NagalandExpress team wishes all the beautiful and lovely ladies a Happy Women’s Day.
