Kohima, April 07 (NEx): The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) informed the general public and piggery farmers that unusual mortality of pig population has been reported in Mon, Kiphire & Phek districts recently.
Therefore, the department requested general public & piggery farmers to remain vigil and observe the following advisories.
The department urged everyone to report death of pigs to the nearest Veterinary Health Centre for necessary sero-monitoring and asked not to consume dead/diseased pigs, but carry out deep burial method and subsequent sanitization.
It also requested the people to refrain from importing live pigs for meat and piglets for breeding purpose from outside without knowing the health status and to maintain strict bio-security measures in the farms and it advised farmers to practice usage of footbath at the entrance of the farm.
Further, the advisory said that pigs should be vaccinated against Classical Swine Fever and people should avoid feeding pigs with feeds especially from hotel and other wastes which may be contaminated.
