Two Major Jungle Fire Averted at Kohima

Two major jungle fire were averted by the Fire and Emergency Services yesterday at Jakhama and Thizama, Kohima.

Kohima, January 08 (NEx): Two major jungle fire were averted by the Fire and Emergency Services team yesterday at Jakhama and Thizama, Kohima.

Jungle fire at Jakhama:

Kenny Khing, R.O(E), Fire and Emergency Service Department, Government of Nagaland informed that on receiving a Jungle Fire call at 05:17 am on January 7th, 2021 Near St. Joseph College, Jakhama, F & ES team from Fire Station Kohima South and Fire Station Kohima North proceeded to control the fire.

He said that three Fire Tenders along with sufficient Equipments & Fire Personnel were pressed into action. Due to harsh terrain and inaccessible dry grasses, it took the Fire Team 10 hours, 15 minutes and two round trips each to combat the Fire, the RO informed.

Due to timely information and response, the fire was prevented from spreading further to the surrounding jungle and residential areas. The cause of fire is unknown and there was no casualties. The response team was led by Duty Commander S.I Keyirangsobe, ASI Dzesengutuo Keyho, ASI Wapang Lemtur and ASI Hanso K Limms, Khing said.

Jungle fire at Thizama:

Meanwhile, Fire Fighters were still engaged in fighting the fire at Jakhama when another major Jungle Fire call was received at 03:51 pm on January 7th, 2021 at 4th NAP Camp, Thizama, Kohima.

Khing informed that the standby Fire Team from Fire Station Kohima North along with Fire Tenders, sufficient Equipments & Fire Personnel were pressed into action.

Due to timely response from Fire Team, the fire was prevented from further spreading to the surrounding, he added.

There was no casualty and the cause of fire is unknown. The response team was led by Duty Commander S.I Chumbemo Patton, the RO informed.
