Tuensang police cautions on cyber fraud; 'OTP for vaccination scam'

Kohima, January 12 (NEx): The Tuensang police, with an aim “Aware Society-A Safe Society”, started an awareness series on cyber frauds. In its first battle against cyber frauds, Tuensang Police on Monday, cautioned on OTP for vaccination scam and advised the people to be aware of such scams to avoid becoming a fraud victim.

Tuensang police awareness notification said that the Fraudsters have been calling people and seeking bank account details for COVID-19 vaccine registration. Explaining on the modus operandi; fraudsters ask for Aadhaar, email id etc and to authenticate the Aadhaar number they ask for One Time Password received on the mobile phone. The moment the OTP is shared, money is siphoned off from Aadhaar linked bank account, it cautioned.

Cyber criminals may also offer to ‘Pay and Register’ in getting priority to receive first Corona Vaccine through, email, message or phone calls. Tuensang Police advised the people to be aware of such frauds, otherwise people may get defrauded, it cautioned.
