Dimapur, August 30: The State Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Dimapur was inaugurated today (August 30, 2019). Advisor, Tourism, Art & Culture, H. Khehovi Yepthomi was special guest who unveiled the inaugural plaque.
Addressing the gathering attended by government officials, public leaders, area councils, the Advisor said that after taking over the charge of the department and seeing how it could help the state and the people in terms of developing useful skills and improve economy. He termed as one of a kind opportunity that has been given to the Nagas as in a generation where employment is scarce. Getting the chance to generate new jobs is always a blessing, he added.
Khehovi was positive that through the Institute, tourism and hospitality industry in Nagaland would further grow and also a grand prospect to establish a self-sufficient economy for the people of the state.
He said that the goal was not merely to build a big building or to fill it with people but also to make a strategic endearment and to produce employment and more job opportunities for the state.
Advisor also expressed gratitude to financial institutions who were involved in the project and the department officials who put in their sincere effort and made a special mentioned of Late N.Y. Chishi who was the contractor of the project.
Commissioner & Secretary, Tourism, T. Mhabemo Yanthan stated that Nagas having huge resources of local exotic cuisines coming from more than 16 different tribal communities is one of the extraordinary tradition in the culinary sector which can be exported to the outside world. The organic food and vegetables which are largely found here will be an added advantage, he said, as food with right nutrients is what the world is looking forward to. Yanthan further said that with innovation and application of the right frame of mind will upscale our position in this fearlessly competitive professional sector.
Regional Director (NE) India Tourism Guwahati, S.S. Devbarman in his address said that Hotel management being a technical institution has an important role of developing tourism in the region and with the coming up of the Institute will boost the job opportunity and a big boost for employment generation and has tremendous future and prospect. He on behalf of the Ministry assured all assistance and cooperation.
Executive Engineer, Tourism, Er. Thungdemo Patton in his Technical Report mentioned that the Ministry of Tourism funded Rupees 1269 lakh for the main building, quarters, hostels and after that the NEC supported in two phases for approach road, security fencing, filling etc. in the first phase and the subsequent year for the construction of second floor which was needed as the project was upgraded as hotel management and catering.
