Kohima: Team Mystic Ballers (TMB) from Jotsoma emerged as the champions of the 11th Open Basketball Tournament (OBT) after defeating Team Ocra 72-60 in the final match here at local ground (Khuochiezie) on Sunday (May 19).
Despite Team Orca playing at its home court, the young team failed to deal with the pressure.
TMB led the first set 23-11 however, Ocra managed to get back into the game with 39-31 in the second set.
In the third set, TMB took a huge lead 59-43 and in the fourth set they took it by storm to win by 12 points to clinch the trophy.
TMB walked home with a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 along with citations, while Orca received Rs. 30,000. Stallions and Amplified, the two semifinalists, received a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 each.
Kevin Tale of Team Ocra was named as the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament. He received Rs 10,000.
Fan of the Tournament was bagged by Elena Yhome, who also received Rs. 2000.
A total of 18 teams participated in the tournament organized by Suncity Kohima in collaboration with Nagaland Basketball Association.
Administrator, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), Kovi Meyase was the guest of honour of the closing ceremony. He also gave away the awards to the winners.
In his speech, he disclosed that as part of the Kohima Smart City project, the administration was hopeful of developing atleast two modern basketball courts in Kohima.
