Marking the 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Nagaland PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi, officially launched the 2nd phase of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign at City Tower Juncture Dimapur, on 2nd October 2019.
In his brief speech, Jacob Zhimomi reminded that Swachhata Hi Seva under the theme Plastic Shramdaan aims to eradicate single use of plastic through peoples participation. It is a movement of Government of India initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi he said and appeal to the people to make the movement for a lifetime. He also congratulated all the participating departments for their involvement in various activities in strengthening the campaign for a better cause and said that he was honoured to be part of the campaign at Dimapur. Further, Jacob reminded about the Government’s advisory given to all the business establishments to do away with plastic, cautioning that defaulters would be penalised.
On the occasion all the participants took a pledge not to use plastic, which was administered by Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol. Administrator DMC, Albert Ezung, NCS chaired the programme.
Later, the special guest flagged off the Mass Shramdaan, where officers and staff of different departments, military/paramilitary, NGOs, civil societies, Students of different schools, citizens and shopkeepers of Dimapur district participated in the Mass Shramdaan, at various locations.

Kiphire District has organised a mass social work on collection of plastic wastes on 2nd October 2019 at Kiphire spearheaded by the district administration. Plastic collection was organised as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva targeting collection of plastic wastes in all the eleven wards and colonies in the town.
Plastic wastes mass collection was conducted in residential premises and offices, parks, hotels and restaurants, public ground, market places, hospitals as well as high ways, drains and streets. The plastic wastes collection will be segregated and sent to agencies for recycling.
Swachhata Hi seva plastic free campaign initiated by the district Administration on 2nd of Oct 2019 completed successfully at Tuensang.
The campaign directed all the wards of Tuensang town which were assisted by one nodal officer and DB each in clearing plastic wastes. Wards were also directed to construct plastic waste dustbins in three to five locations as per the area of the wards. The district offices were also directed to construct the plastic waste bins in respective offices. The plastics wastes and other wastes were segregated as per the direction before disposal. The villages around Tuensang were also inspected.

Along with rest of the nation, Zunheboto district observed,” SWACHHATA HI SEVA- Cleanliness is service” a “way of life” by organising a mass social work on 2nd October 2019.
Deputy Commissioner Peter Lichamo administered the pledge on not to use plastics to the colony GBs, DBs and the public. DC urged the people to stop the use of single use plastics (SUP) as it takes long time to degrade and also said that burning of plastics is an offense now as burning plastic produces poisonous gas which are harmful to the environment.
ADC Hito Sema advised the people to try and make use of any alternative instead of plastics. On the occasion Commissioner and Secretary Land Resource, Y. Kikheto Sema planted a tree at Deputy Commissioner’s residence. People around Zunheboto both young and old participated in the mass social work.
To mark the 150th birth anniversary of M.K Gandhi, “Plastic Shramdan” & “Angikaar – a Campaign for Change Management” was organised by Peren Town Council with Community Participation and in collaboration with Municipal Affairs Department, Nagaland on 2nd October 2019 at Town Hall, Peren Town.
Paulieyile Herie, a class IX student of All Saint’s Hr. Sec. School, Peren delivered a short speech on the topic “Plastic Free”. She asserted that with the rapid growth in population, the amount of garbage or plastic wastes are also increasing and is affecting the environment tremendously. Paulieyile also spoke on the advantages and dis-advantages of using plastic materials and further mentioned that it is time for us to stand united and fight plastic pollution then only we can certainly bring down the pollution level to a larger extent.
ADC Peren, Moa Sangtam while addressing the gathering stated “Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2019” is a countrywide awareness programme with special focus on “Plastic Waste Management”. He said that plastic wastes collected should be segregated into recyclable and non-recyclable plastics and the collected wastes has to be deposited at Jalukie town and later to be exported as per the directive of the government. Speaking on the occasion, he also highlighted on the importance of getting rid of single use of plastic and further stated that training on paper bag-making for women folks and unemployed youths will be conducted shortly within the month of October. He also called upon the citizens to join hands for this movement and maintain a clean environment in the district.
All administrative headquarters inclusive of all the villages and towns under Peren District also conducted a Mass Cleanliness Drive and Angikaar March in their respective localities.
The program was chaired by Nodal Officer for Angikaar Campaign Peren Town, Rampauyi Ndang. Angikaar video on 8 verticals was released by ADC Peren Town, Moa Sangtam, while Angikaar pledge was led by MIS Specialist City Level Technical Cell PMAY-HFA (U) Mission Nagaland, Neitho Usou, Swachh Bharat Pledge and tree plantation was led by ADC Peren, Moa Sangtam and vote of thanks was proposed by Rampauyi Ndang.
Mass social work for collection of plastic waste under the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva campaign was held at Mon which was organised by District administration of Mon on 2nd October 2019.
DC, Mon Thavaseelan K, IAS launched the mass social work (Shramdaan) and administered swachhata pledge on ‘not to use plastics’ which was conducted at DC’s Office complex in the presence of Heads of Offices of all departments and staff of DC office.
The district administration took charge in all the wards for collection of plastics waste kept in the ward level collection centres. Citizens proactively participated in the mass social work to achieve plastic free environment in Mon town.
FILM ON GANDHI SCREENED AT MON.
In commemorating Gandhi Jayanti, A film base on Mahatma Gandhi’s life story was screened at Council Hall, Mon by the District Public Relations Officer, Mon on 2nd October 2019.
The screening was attended by ADC Mon, Hiazu Meru, EAC Mon, Vitoka Yeptomi, representatives from all wards of Mon town, government employees and the citizens of Mon town.
Mass social work was held on 2nd October 20-19 in all the colonies and wards, today’s social work was especially focus on cleaning/clearing of drainages and collection of PLASTIC WASTE ONLY in their respective colonies and wards as part of the undergoing observance of ‘swachhata hi seva-cleanliness is service’ campaign along with the rest of the country.
The ADC & Administrator Wokha Town Council, Mhathung Tsanglao launched the mass social work and administered Shramdaan with swachhata pledge which was done at Police Point Wokha. During the social work all plastic wastes were collected and stocked in designated locations identified at respective colonies and were collected and transported at the dumping site. Bags were also distributed to all the colonies, wards, business establishments to collect the plastic waste for disposal. All departmental office employees and citizens and general public participated in the mass social work.

In the early hours of the day, staff and the students of the college cleaned up plastics waste from in and around the college premises and also from the Lotha Baptist Churches Association (LBCA) mission centre compounds. Later in the day they also carried out works for clearing roadside drainage, filling up of potholes and clearing up of roadside Jungles as part of cleanliness drive.
CITY LEVEL LAUNCH OF ANGIKAAR CAMPAIGN HELD AT WOKHA
One day city launch of Angikaar campaign was held on 2nd October 2019 at Town Hall, Wokha celebrating on the birth anniversary of our Father of Nation towards “New India”.
“Housing for All” In-charge, MIS Specialist, Elonthung Ezung stated that the programme was chaired by Molosangla Ozkum, EAC Probation.
Keynote address on Angikaar awareness was presented by EAC, Wokha Arhomo Yanthan. Additional Deputy Commissioner & Administrator Wokha Town Council, K. Mhathung Tsanglao did the launching of Angikaar video promo which was followed by plantation drive. Signature campaign was done by Renbeni Ezung, Nodal Officer, Angikaar, WTC.
Swachhata Shramdaan & Angikaar Campaign under Longleng Town Council was launched at DC’s office complex on 2nd October 2019 by the Deputy Commissioner of Longleng M. Shayung Phom.
In his launching speech the Deputy Commissioner briefed the gathering of Government officers, Ward leaders, Chamber of Commerce & Business Community, NGOs and civil societies about the importance of celebrating the day and decent live and the vision of Mahatma Gandhi the father of the nation. He urged the gathering for proper management of plastic waste for recycling and to make Longleng a plastic free district.
The DC lauded the effort of the wards and colonies for construction of plastic enclosures at their respective place and appealed for proper utilization of the waste management system for beautification and healthy environment. He also particularly urged the business community to ban use of one use plastic in all the shops. He further called upon the womenfolk to come up with innovative ideas to replace the present plastic poly bags with indigenous products.
Besides the Swachhata Shramdaan the DC also launched the “Run for Fit India” organized by the Assam Rifle, Longleng and Tree plantation Drive by the LTC.
Earlier, as part of the campaign the SHS promo videos and Angikaar promo video were screened by the DPRO and Angikaar, administration of pledge on Swachhata Hi Seva & Angikaar was administered by Ihoilung Chuilo EAC Headquarter & Nodal officer SHS Longleng, Other highlights included distribution of free bags to the chamber of commerce and business community, distribution of prizes to the winners of the wards for construction of plastic enclosures by DC, Signature campaign and Angikaar March.
The program was chaired by Rhobi Sangtam EAC, Longleng HQ. Later Mass social work on collection of plastic waste was conducted in Longleng and adjoining villages.
Mokokchung a mass social work programme held on 2nd October 2019. The programme was organized by the District Administration and Mokokchung Municipal council under “Swachhata Hi Seva” focusing on Massive Plastic Waste “SHRAMDAAN” and “ANGIKAAR” a campaign for change Management in the days programme, plastic waste were collected in the entire town and its surroundings area for sending to re-cycling units for its re-cycle.
All the Government employees under various Departments, all Wards Union, Mokokchung, Watsu Mungdang, Ao Students Conference, Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem, Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Clean Mokokchung Campaign, Mokokchung Press Club, Young Women Christian Association, Kabur Telok Salangtem ward, Christ Church Mokokchung, Youth Alive Ministry, Lydia ministry and Royal Enfield club, Mokokchung.
The launching programme was held at Imlong Place Police Point at 9:00 AM where DC Mokokchung, Rajesh Soundararajan IAS focussed on Plastic Waste Segregation and Management. He thanked various stake holders for their contribution and support.
The programme was chaired by ADC & Administrator MMC Mokokchung W. Manpai Phom. Short speech was delivered by EE PHED Mokokchung Er. Yanger. Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) theme song was sung by Changsen, Bench Assistant D.C office.
A Walkathon from Imkongmeren Sports complex to Imlong Place junction participated by PMAY (U) Housing for all (HFA) beneficiaries under “ANGIKAAR” campaign was also held. The Walkathon was flagged off by SDO (C) Mokokchung, Abhinav Shivam followed by tree plantation at Town Hall premises. Screening of Mahatma Gandhi documentary by DPRO Mokokchung in collaboration with Mokokchung Channel (local) was also a part of the day long programme
As per the governments directive an intensive awareness and sensitization campaign on ‘Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Cleanliness is service on the theme, “Plastic Waste Shramdaan”, was conducted at Pfutsero town on 2nd October 2019.
The mass social work was conducted with prime objective of banning/discouraging the use of single use plastics for which a pledge was also administered in all the offices, institutions and wards. Ward wise competition was also held, where the ward Chairmen coordinated the segregation of plastic waste within their respective colonies.
The mass social work was participated by all the government offices, wards, Pfutsero town youth organisation, Pfutsero town women organisation, Pfutsero town traders Union and schools and colleges.
Pfutsero Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator, Pfutsero Town Council administered and supervised the mass social work.
As a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Birth Anniversary, along with the rest of the Nation, Medziphema Sub-division observed Swachhata Hi Seva, on 2nd October 2019 at Medziphema.
Government Offices, schools, churches, youth, women, public leaders, GBs, ward chairman, NGOs actively participated in the mass shramdaan, where 298.5 Kg of plastic waste of recyclables and 279.7 Kg of non recyclables were collected and segregated at identified places made of bamboo for effective disposal which were collected from Medziphema town and surrounding villages under Medziphema Sub-division.
ICAR, MTC and CIH, PHE, BDO and NU provided tractor and dumpers for collecting and clearing plastic waste materials.
The cleaning was executed finely by Sub-division Administration, PHE and the Beckon NGO of Medziphema and handed over to the district Administration.
ADC Medziphema Thsuvisie Phoji administrated pledge of “Swachhata Hi Seva” Cleanliness is Service – A way of Life, pledge along with the people, to keep the surrounding clean and say no to plastic.
The mass social work was a great success with a combined effort from both the public and the Government.
Joining the state wide “Swachhata Hi Seva-cleanliness is service and 150 years of celebrating the Mahatma Gandhi”, Pughoboto citizens conducted social works in all the colonies, Government departments, Public ground and schools on 2nd October 2019.
Students of class 9 and 10 in Pughoboto, Pughoboto Youth organisation, Traders Association, PPKK, NCRC, Town Baptist Church and the residents of Pughoboto town cleaned up the clogged drains, weeds, bottles, polythene bags, etc, in their assigned surrounding, schools and places as directed by the administration. Government staff also cleaned their respective offices. PWD department arranged Tata mobile for the disposal of garbage assisted by PA to DC along with the SDPO Jawans to dispose off the garbages. ADC Pughoboto T.Moa Lemtor and other administrators supervised the drive.
Citizens of Shamator along with school children took part in the country wide Swachhata Hi Seva programme by cleaning up plastic and all kinds of wastes. The programme was led by Lankonsen Tsanglao ADC, Shamator.
NGOs of Shamator, various government departments along with citizens took part in mass social work.
Shramdaan as part of swatchha hi sewa (SHS) Campaign and also in lieu of the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti a mass social work was conducted at Noklak on 2nd October 2019 under the supervision of EAC Noklak Hq Yithachu Thur and EAC Nokhio Hq.
All offices, sectors and main town were cleaned including roadside jungle and drainage where plastics wastes were collected. Hundreds of trash bins were distributed to the sectors. DBs, GBs Students from all the schools under Noklak took active part in the cleanliness drive.
ADC Tening, Rhosietho Nguori initiated mass social work as part Swachhata Hi Seva at Tening on 2nd October, 2019.
Ward Level Plastic Collection Centre (WLPCC) for Tening include locations near NST Bus Stand, SBI and PHC. Material Recovery Facility (MRF) has been set up near the Tening Council Office (Market shed) for collection of plastic wastes from all the Town Wards as well as the villages.
Tening Sub Division mass social work was led by Village Council Chairman and WATSAN Chairman of the respective villages on the direction of ADC. Cleaning/segregation of wastes into recyclable and non-recyclable shall be done from 7th to 9th October, 2019.
Joining the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a mass social work was carried out in Aghunato town on 2nd of October under the banner ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is service).
SDO (PHED) Mughalu G Achumi read out the Swachhata Pledge in the presence of EAC Aghunato, Echungbemo Erui. GBs, Elders and the general public actively participated in the mass work today where large amount of plastic wastes and debris have been collected.
Tseminyu Town joined the rest of the country in Swachhata Shramdan program (social work) on 2/10/19. Government officials and public of all the Wards in Tseminyu town, participated in collecting the waste plastics under the supervision of ADC Nokchasashi Kichu, Heads of offices and colony GBs.
Pungro organised a mass social work on 2nd October 2019 aiming specifically on collection of plastic wastes as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva. Christian school, Pungro also cleaned their school compound targeted towards collection of plastic wastes in Pungro town.
Chen area conducted cleanliness drive, mass social work on 2nd October 2019, to commemorate the birth of Mahatma Gandhi. Mass Cleanliness drive was conducted in all residential premises, Government offices, Schools, churches.
Sections of people from different colonies of Meluri Sub division actively participated in Swachhata hi Seva program under the supervision of the district administration. Police personnels, Village Guards, NGOs and general public from nine colonies collected plastic wastes and byproducts for disposal.
A mass social work/voluntary service, as part of ‘Swacchta Hi Seva’ was held on the 2nd of October 2019 under the supervision of SDO (C) Changtongya, Moakumzuk Tzudir.
Altogether 150 kgs of Plastics Waste was collected from offices and other places from Changtongya Town and segregation of re-cycleable waste was done. All heads of offices and staff, ward chairmen, GBs and Watsü Unit Changtongya participated in the drive. Watsü Unit Changtongya also distributed cloth bags.
