Kohima, October 29 (NE): State level Kala Utsav, organised by Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland, was held at Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire GHSS, Seikhazou, Kohima on 29th October 2019. Direcotor IPR, Limawati Ao graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

In his address, Limawati said dance and physical activities should have the same status in school as maths, science and languages, “Dance can help restore joy and stability in troubled lives, and ease the tensions in schools that are disrupted by violence and bullying.”

He said studies have indicated that music can lead to an improvement in brain development and neural processing was found to be better in students who played a musical instrument than those who simply listened to music.

Citing the example of “Dreamz Unlimited”, he mentioned that the group members are earning a comfortable livelihood and more popular than any other youngsters in Nagaland. He added that one of their YouTube videos have crossed one million views which is a big achievement from our context.

He said painting teaches a person to slow down and observe the world for what it is, and also help in communicating one’s emotions.

He, therefore, urged all the stakeholders in the state education system to promote these activities seriously and further aid the growing importance of these activities.

Kala Utsav is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to promote arts in education at the secondary level by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students in the country.

Kala Utsav is a pioneering celebration of art forms in the school system and shall continue as an ongoing programme.

The district/state/national-level utsav is structured as an art festival which will include performances and display of exhibits along with their online art projects (e-project). The design of Kala Utsav will help students explore, understand and showcase living art traditions (Music, Theatre, Dance, Visual Arts and Crafts). Through Kala Utsav, students will get the opportunity to understand and celebrate cultural diversity at school, district, state and national levels.

The Kala Utsav will not only spread awareness among students, but also create awareness of India’s cultural heritage and its vibrant diversity amongst other stakeholders. Further, this will help to promote the networking of artists, artisans and institutions with schools.

State Programme Coordinator Kala Utsav, Timothy Thong gave a brief introduction of Kala Utsav. Assistant Mission Director, Samagra Siksha Nagaland, Chungngam Konyak said the vote of thanks. Assistant Mission Director, SS Nagaland, Liyalo Apon chaired the program.
