Kohima, February 18 (NEx): Shinnyu, one of the remote village in Mon district of Nagaland is now the first Solar-powered village in Nagaland, as the District Administration, Mon in collaboration with Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE), has electrified the village using Solar Microgrids Based Electrification.
Shinnyu Village under Monyakshu Sub-Division in Mon district is one of the 10 villages without any electrification. Mon District Administration in collaboration with GHE has electrified 60 Households, Church and the Community Hall only using Solar Microgrids.
The Mon district Administration has taken up the initiative to solar electrify the villages due to the hardships faced by the people and communities without electricity.
The total cost of the project is said to be 23 lakhs including the cost of logistics for transport of all the materials from New Delhi. This was done under CSR funding, informed the district Administration.
New Nokyan, Old Jaboka villages under Hunta Sub-Division, Apao Changle Village under Aboi sub division, Longwa Wasa under Phomching Sub-Division, Hongkhong, Ukha Lampong, Yaphang Villages under Mopong Sub-Division, Jakphang Hongha under Angjangyang Sub-Division, Shinnyu and Obay villages under Monyakshu Sub-Division in Mon district are the villages without any electrification till today.
The Deputy Commissioner of Mon, Thavaseelan K IAS informed that, ‘in the next phase, we are working on electrifying more villages in addition to several Health Units and Schools’.
