Security Forces Celebrates World Environment Day Across Nagaland

Kohima, June 05 (NEx): The Naga Terriers under the aegis of HQ (IGAR) HQ 3 Corps undertook Water Conservation and Plantation Drive at Zakhama, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang, Tizit and Rangapahar, Nagaland on the occasion of World Environment Day 2021.

The PRO (Def) Kohima informed that troops from respective COB’s along with overwhelming support of volunteers from Villages planted approx 10,500 saplings across Nagaland with a pledge to protect the environment.

The Commanding Officer, Col. Neeraj Sood, Shaurya Chakra exhorted everyone to protect mother nature and save the environment for present and future generations, the PRO said.

Also, Battalions of IGAR (North) under the aegis of Directorate General Assam Rifles celebrated World Environment Day 2021 based on the theme ‘Ecosystem Restoration’ by carrying out a large scale tree plantation drive, cleanliness drive and conducting awareness lectures on
environment protection across the state of Nagaland.

The PRO HQ IGAR (N) informed that the event was flagged off with the virtual celebration of the day, organized by Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Nagaland and graced by Hon’ble Chief Minister of the State, Neiphiu Rio.

Major General Viresh Pratap Singh Kaushik, Sena Medal Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North), informed the participants on the steps taken by the force for environment protection and thanked the Chief Minister for his forthcoming support in all social endeavours of the force.

The Assam Rifles units under IGAR(N) planted 28.8 lacs trees last year as part of ‘Green India’ initiative of MHA with further plans to plant 11.16 lacs saplings this year.

The Force has executed multiple Rain Water Harvesting Projects, installed Solar Lights in the villages, made garrisons ‘Plastic Free Zones’, and has also been able to reduce electricity consumption and overall Carbon Footprint considerably, the PRO said.

The Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) launched the virtual event by planting a tree at Kohima Garrison, followed by tree plantation drive, cleanliness drive and awareness lectures on environment protection by the units.
