'Satisfied with Kohima Medical College work progress' - Nagaland Health Minister Pangnyu

Kohima, May 19 (NEx): The Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom after visiting the ongoing construction site of Nagaland Medical College in Kohima on Wednesday said that he is satisfied with the work progress.

Taking to twitter, Pangnyu said, “Visited the ongoing construction of Nagaland Medical College, Kohima today. I am satisfied with the progress of the work and appreciate the sincere efforts put in by the contractors.”

Pangnyu also took stock of the grievances faced by the contractors and assured all possible help by the Department. The Minister also reminded the Contractors that proper workmanship and SOP should be maintained.

It is pertinent to note that, the foundation stone for the Medical College in Kohima was laid 7 years ago in the year 2014. The Central government has approved to establish the medical college in Kohima at a cost of 189 crore. The funds were to be shared by the Centre and the State government in the ratio of 90: 10.

According to an update given by the MoS, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the complete amount of Central share amounting to Rs.171.10 crore has been released to the State Government of Nagaland for establishment of the medical college in Kohima.

It is important to note that the Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan visited the construction site of Kohima Medical College on February 27, 2021. Vardhan stated that ‘the project could not be taken up on time and has been delayed because of land ownership issues, which has now been resolved at the village level.’

Union Minister further informed that the proposed date for completion of the project is set at year end 2021, and few things to be completed by mid 2022, a DIPR report said.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, appreciated the Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom, for making sure that Medical college at Kohima is at fast paced completion.
