It is pertinent to note that, the foundation stone for the Medical College in Kohima was laid 7 years ago in the year 2014. The Central government has approved to establish the medical college in Kohima at a cost of 189 crore. The funds were to be shared by the Centre and the State government in the ratio of 90: 10.
According to an update given by the MoS, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, the complete amount of Central share amounting to Rs.171.10 crore has been released to the State Government of Nagaland for establishment of the medical college in Kohima.
It is important to note that the Union Health Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan visited the construction site of Kohima Medical College on February 27, 2021. Vardhan stated that ‘the project could not be taken up on time and has been delayed because of land ownership issues, which has now been resolved at the village level.’
Union Minister further informed that the proposed date for completion of the project is set at year end 2021, and few things to be completed by mid 2022, a DIPR report said.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, appreciated the Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom, for making sure that Medical college at Kohima is at fast paced completion.
