Vice President says preservation of nature and culture is the only way to ensure a sustainable future

Today is International Day for Biological Diversity which is being held under the theme ‘Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health’.

On the occasion, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu calls upon every citizen to adopt sustainable ways to lead life and become change agents by conserving natural resources.

Participating in the International Day of Biodiversity celebrations organized by the National Biodiversity Authority in Chennai today, Naidu noted that nature plays a critical role in providing food, energy, medicines and genetic resources.

He said, climate change, destruction of habitats, pollution and loss of green cover is posing a grave threat to biodiversity, and people must act swiftly to correct the situation.

Naidu said, maintaining biodiversity is an important aspect of the well-being of the planet earth. Naidu also asked for diversification of food crops and to ensure nutrition security and urged for the development process to be in harmony with preservation of nature.

Nagaland also observes International Day for Biological Diversity. In Zunheboto, Sumi Baptist Akukohuo Kukhaqulu in collaboration with Nagaland State Biodiversity Board observed the Day and adopted several resolutions which include tree plantation drive, cleanliness drive, promote locally available biological resources among others.
