Kohima, October 13 (NEx): The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton, NLA Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer, Lok Sabha MP Tokheho Yepthomi, Leader of Opposition, TR Zeliang, Legislators, Government officials along with others condole the untimely demise of the Nagaland Minister, CM Chang.

CM Chang, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Justice and Law, GoN, passed away on Monday afternoon at Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima. He was 77. State Health officials confirmed that Chang had contracted COVID-19 besides having other health issues. He was the sitting MLA of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) from 51-Noksen assembly constituency.

PM Modi said, ‘Saddened by the passing away of Shri CM Chang, Minister in the Nagaland Government. He was experienced in areas of administration and policy, first as a bureaucrat and later as a political leader. He worked hard for Nagaland’s progress. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed shock and pain over the demise of C.M Chang today at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.

In a condolence message, Rio said he is unable to express the loss, especially at this juncture. CM Chang was a pillar of strength, a true gentleman and a fatherly figure to many. He further mentioned that Chang was like a brother, a trusted advisor and a loyal associate. His friendship and valuable advice rendered during crucial times will be missed and his demise has created a huge vacuum not just for the ENPO but for the Nagas as a whole, Rio added.

Deputy CM Y Patton tweets: Shri Chang had always kept the welfare of the people first, whether as an IAS officer, a Lok Sabha MP, or as a Minister. In his demise, we’ve suffered today an irreparable loss. May his soul rest in peace!

Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer said, CM Chang was a very good administrator and an eminent parliamentarian. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. I pray that God bless and comfort the family during this difficult period. May his soul rest in peace.

Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said, I am saddened by the demise of Shri. C M Chang, Hon’ble Minister, who breathed his last at NHAK today. With his passing away, our State has lost a great soul & a dynamic leader of our time, whose absence will immensely affect our people. My condolences to the beveared family, Pangnyu tweets.

Tokheho Yepthomi, MP Lok Sabha Nagaland said, ‘Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri CM Chang, Minister, Nagaland. He served the people and our State as a Govt official and went on to serve as MLA. A valued colleague during our tenure together in the NLA. Condolences to his family. May he rest in peace’.

Leader of Opposition and Former Chief Minister, TR Zeliang said, ‘Deeply pained at the demise of CM Chang. A sincere and a man of truth, had the privilege to be a friend since 1982 when he served as EAC Peren. A principled gentleman who contributed diligently for welfare of the people. Condolences to the bereaved family at this hour of grief.’

Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along said, ‘deeply saddened to know about the demise of Minister for Environmental, Forest & Climate Change and Justice & Law, Shri. C.M.
