Peren Civil Society Organizations demanded the arrest of Lamhainamdi culprits within 10 days

Peren, April 01 (NEx): The Civil Society Organizations, Peren on Wednesday demanded the arrest of culprits involved in the March 22nd Lamhainamdi incident within 10 days and immediate termination of the post Commander of 9 IRB Coy from active service presently posted at Lamhainamdi village.

The charter of demands submitted to the Chief Minister of Nagaland by the Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) and Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organization stated that Justice too long delayed is justice denied. ‘A week has gone by since our three brothers were butchered like animals in our own land and except for the formation of Special Investigation Team (SIT), no concrete action has been taken by the State government’, it said.

‘Deploying security forces alone will not do justice. The terrorist activities carried out by armed miscreants at Lamhainamdi village on March 22nd under the very nose of an armed 9 IRB Coy which was posted within the perimeter of the incident speaks volumes of the inefficiency of our security forces. Under such a paradigm, will deployment of security forces alone serve the purpose?’.

‘The pertinent question that arise is why the state government has not taken any punitive action against the government officers who failed to prevent the tragic incident or take action against the suspected intruders?’

‘The state government at Kohima and its machineries at the district level including the district administration and district police were very much aware of the impending danger but sat over the matter till the fateful day,’ it stated.

‘This negligence has exposed the general public to high risk today and the same cannot be an excuse, at least not after the gruesome killing of three people’, the CSOs said.

Further, it said, ‘The state government must not be confused and it must not confuse it’s citizens. Criminal case must not be mixed with district boundary issue or land disputes. The deceased were tortured, as was evident by the horrific mutilated body parts, before being shot at point blank range and burnt alongside their vehicles’.

‘Four red-ink written notes were left behind alongside the dead bodies which claimed that the gruesome killing was an act of retribution to defend Ancestral land,’ the CSOs added.

The Peren CSOs demanded ‘the arrest of culprits involved in the March 22nd incident under appropriate sections of the law and establish their identities within 10 days with effect from March 31st, 2021 and immediate termination of the post Commander of 9 IRB Coy from active service presently posted at Lamhainamdi village.’

‘In the event, our trust and faith in the state government falls short of expectation, we will be left with no other option but to initiate our own course of action,’ it added.

The copies of the charter of demands by the Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland) and Nagaland Zeliang People’s Organization were also submitted to the Dy. Chief Minister & Home Minister of Nagaland, Leader of Opposition, Advisor Water Resource Nagaland, Commissioner and secretary to Governor of Nagaland.
