Peren, September 08 (NEx): Peren district in Nagaland has become a COVID-19 free district as all 268 COVID-19 positive patients recovered. Peren district is the second district in Nagaland with zero COVID positive cases alongwith Longleng district as per the bulletin issued by Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Nagaland.
Peren in Nagaland is the fourth worst COVID-19 affected district in the State with 268 cases after Mon district with 294 cases, Kohima with 1332 and Dimapur 2042. It is important to note that Peren has not reported any death due to COVID-19 till date.
Peren’s COVID battling journey was not an easy task, as the district had witnessed many turbulences and shortfalls, which eventually led even to the extent of transferring two doctors from the district.
Peren reported its first COVID-19 positive case due to a mismanagement on June 03, 2020. A COVID positive patient, a returnee from Chennai was sent to Peren district from Dimapur Quarantine centre, along with other returnees who were tested negative, which was the beginning of turbulences in the district.
Following this incident, there were many protests and uproars among the public and various civil and students bodies. Meanwhile, in another incident on June 23rd, returnees were sent for home Quarantine without COVID-19 retest, eventually some tested positive for the virus after reaching their community.
Since then, 268 postive cases were detected in the district within a span of three months. Meanwhile, many protests were also witnessed across the district following the two incidents which had put the normal lives in danger.
Finally, a sigh of relief for one of the most affected district in the state as the COVID-19 bulletin counted zero for active positive cases in Peren on Monday, September 07, 2020.
