Dimapur, January 24 (NE): The first MP from among Naga people and former NAGA Hoho President Shri Melhupra Vero passes away this morning, January Twenty Four, at 7 am in his private residence at Walford Colony, Dimapur.
According to an information received here, the mortal remains will be carried to his hometown Runguzu village, under Phek district for the last funeral rites to be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020.
Shri Melhupra Vero is an Indian politician of Naga descent and the first member of parliament from among the Naga people. Born in Dimapur, Nagaland, Shri Vero contested at the Rajya Sabha in 1989 and won the election as an Indian National Congress candidate.
The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour-the Padmashri award in 2006, for his contributions to the society. On October One 2015, the Government of Nagaland honoured him during the International Day of Older Persons celebrations.
Various key leaders from Nagaland are condoling the sudden demise. No further informations were available at the time of filing this report.
