'Opposition making wild allegations without any authenticity' - PDA

Kohima, June 07 (NEx): The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government of Nagaland while appreciating all sections of the people for positive co-operation towards observation of lockdown, and welcoming the constructive criticism, said that ‘it is unbecoming of responsible parties and senior leaders to simply make wild allegations without any authenticity and made merely to get media attention’.

The PDA in a press release appreciated all sections of the people for positive co-operation towards observation of lockdown and thereby continuing to lower the pandemic graph in the State in our collective efforts to combat the global pandemic and said that maintenance of lockdown and the fight against COVID-19 is not only the government’s responsibility but a collective battle all over the world and appreciated the people for bearing with the inconveniences and making sacrifices for each other’s safety.

It also appreciated all the frontline workers, especially the medical fraternity who continue to make significant sacrifices round the clock to keep the citizens of the State safe and also acknowledged the contributions of the Churches, Civil Societies, Tribal Hohos, NGOs and all other sections.

Meanwhile, the PDA said that it is been drawn by press releases and statements made by the opposition, criticising the government and making several false allegations of late. While constructive criticism is appreciated and welcomed, it is unbecoming of responsible parties and senior leaders to simply make wild allegations without any authenticity and made merely to get media attention, it said.

Mentioning the recent statement by the opposition on “starvation war”, the PDA said it is indeed worrisome as it is inciting public feelings and actions towards possible disorderly acts and chaos in the society. Responsible citizens of the State can judge such irresponsible conduct, it said.

The PDA also stated that the State Government despite implementing lockdown had made all possible efforts to ensure that economic activities are not severely hampered. The Government also said it has made arrangements throughout the State to address any issue of distressed people under the aegis of the District Task Force (DTF).

Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic in 2020, the Government had established DTFs in every district and honourable elected members of both the treasury and opposition benches, including representatives of civil societies were incorporated in the DTFs. Therefore, concerns of any section could have been transparently addressed through the DTFs instead of making unconfirmed allegations through the media, PDA stated.

Further, the PDA also mentioned that financial managements and usage of public funds are all available on the websites of the concerned departments and there are also democratic avenues through platforms like RTI. It also state that while it is the Government’s duty to make its performance and duties transparently known to the people, it is also the responsibility of those questioning to ensure that allegations are substantiated and based on facts.
Statements should not be made just for the sake of criticism or for creation of sensationalism, it said.

While appreciating the constructive suggestions from the opposition, it said the situation demands that responsible parties and leaders should conduct themselves accordingly and also informed that concerned government departments are seriously following up on the matters that have been flagged.

The PDA further expressed sincere condolences to those who have lost loved ones during the pandemic.
