Kohima, April 16 (NEx): The Election Commission Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), today, announced the Model Code of Conducts (MCC) for the Election to the Executive Council and Assembly Executive of the NSF for the tenure 2021 – 2023 which is to be held on April 30th, 2021, at the Conference Hall, Ukhrul, Manipur.
The Chairman Election Commission, NSF, K. Elu Ndang in a notification on Thursday, April 15th, informed that, the Election Commission announced the Model Code of Conducts (MCC) for the Election to the Executive Council and Assembly Executive of the Naga Students’ Federation for the tenure 2021 – 2023, to ensure free and fair Election.
The Model code of conduct prohibits the use of money, power, positions, alcohol, etc. to influence voters and Criticism of other candidates or their supporters based on unverified information, fabricated news or distorted facts and use of loudspeaker during election campaign.
It also prohibits Provocative words/activities against other candidates and said that misuse of social media by sharing inappropriate images/audios/videos etc. of other candidates and Intimidation in any form is a serious offence, hence shall invite befitting penalty.
The MCC also prohibits Display of posters/photo of candidates or propaganda materials, Setting up camps by candidates at the venue, Campaigning by political party in favor of any candidate and Campaigning during conference hour/session & Election procession/Public meeting during Conference.
The MCC also include Co-operation with the officers on election duty to ensure peaceful and orderly polling, Maintaining silence during casting of votes. Excepting the voters, no one without permission from the Election Commission shall enter the polling booths, the EC notified.
The EC in it’s notification also said that in case on any dispute relating to interpretation of Article Twenty-Six of the NSF Constitution, the decision of the Election Commission shall prevail and it shall be final and binding.
Further, EC said it may issue directives and guidelines from time to time for smooth conduct of Election and Non-compliance may invite penalty. It also stated that Violation of the above code of conduct may invite disqualification of his/her candidature.
The Election Commission affirmed that Model Code of Conduct shall be binding on all Intending Candidates and Federal Units in toto and shall come into force with immediate effect.
