NPF to abstain from Meeting called by the Nagaland government on the exercise for creation of the RIIN

Dimapur, July 16: Naga People’s Front (NPF) Legislature party resolved to abstain from attending a Consultative Meeting called by the Nagaland government on the exercise for creation of the RIIN on July 17 at the State Banquet Hall.

The NPF Legislature party condemns the indifferent attitude of the PDA government in dealing with sensitive issues including the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) and Registry of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).

NPF President DR. Shurhozelie Liezietsu said in the press release, the PDA government has the propensity for inviting public organisations and Civil Society for consultation only after adopting resolutions and issuing government notification(s). This irresponsible attitude of the PDA government in dealing with Stakeholders is nothing short of sheer disregard and insult to the sentiments and opinions of the people.

The enumeration process prepared by the government functionaries cannot be accurate and wholly reliable without the contributions of the village councils and GBs of respective village including the students community, NPF President said in the release on 16th July 2019.

The PDA government should deliver on its promises to implement ILP in Dimapur district instead of diverting the attention of the people with RIIN. When the looming threat is from the burgeoning population of IBIs, there is no logical explanation as to why the government desire to invest time and energy on RIIN instead of ILP.

The NPF Legislature party therefore, resolved to abstain from attending the so-called consultative meet since the very purpose of consultation was defeated at the same day the state government notified that the RIIN process will be undertaken and completed within 3 months.

If the government is serious about the consultation with public organisations, Civil societies, political parties, it should immediately cancel/revoke all notification/orders for implementation and first issue invitations for a threadbare deliberation on the matter. Otherwise, NPF Legislature party will not be party to some damage-control and image saving exercise in the form of a consultative meeting as was done in the case of CAB, where only after 3 cabinet decisions supporting the CAB, a consultative meeting was convened at Chumukedima.

The NPF Legislature party deeply disappointed with the treatment meted out to the party by merely equating NPF Legislature party, the principal opposite Legislature party in the state, to that of a civil society even in matters of utmost state importance, said in the press release.
