NPF lashes out at Chief Minister over poor leadership

Naga People’s Front (NPF) lashes out at Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio over poor leadership

Kohima, May 15 (NE): The Naga People’s Front (NPF), on Thursday lashed out at Chief Minister over many issues, for taking the people for a ride during Covid-19 pandemic crisis, handling an outbreak in the state and poor leadership which is putting the State under huge deficit during his tenure.

The NPF reiterated it’s fullest support to the government of the day in tackling the global pandemic COVID-19, and though the NPF was hoping that things will improve if sufficient time is given to the Govt., however, it said that it is regrettable to see the way the PDA govt. is handling the present situation.

Even after an elapse of more than 50 days, no concrete roadmap has been shown by the govt. of the day in managing the pandemic. The fact that the PDA Govt. have been indulging in various mischiefs in the guise of COVID-19, one being the Covid-19 cess on petroleum products is nothing but a day light robbery, NPF stated.

On the issues of bringing back the stranded Nagas and to setting up proper quarantine centres, NPF said that the Chief Minister has terribly failed which is an indication of his poor leadership.

The party also alleged that Chief Minister during the COVID-19 meeting with various civil society organisations of Dimapur at the Rhododendron Hall Chumukedima, must have mistaken the said meeting for discussion of budget and Naga Political issues, as he started with the State deficit figures and brought up the political issues, which is absurd and holds no relevance. It can be described as the trait of Chief Minister in taking the Naga people for a ride, NPF stated.

While reminding on deficit figures, NPF said, Chief Minister during his tenure in 2003 started with zero deficit after the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government magnanimously gave a one time grant to wipe out negative deficit of the State.

While questioning the Chief Minister NPF said, if the Chief Minister wants the public to know State deficit figures in a meeting called to address issues on COVID-19, why not state the 2019-2020 closing deficit figure of ₹2234.85 crores which is 500 plus crores addition in his two years as the CM since March 2018.

When the opposition party and civil organisations have been giving our fullest support in the fight against this virus, it is unfortunate that the CM plays politics with the issue, it stated.

‘Also the Party is baffled by the irresponsible statement of the CM of late, at various public platforms that the State of Nagaland would very soon be brought under President’s rule. NPF questioned, ‘What sort of a Chief Minister of a State makes and wishes President’s rule for his people?’
