No Covid-19 testing centre in Nagaland due to lack of Bio-Safety Level Laboratory

Kohima, March 26 (NE): A press release from Dr. Vizolie Z Suokhrie, Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland informs that, there is no Covid-19 testing centre In Nagaland due to lack Of Bio-Safety Level Laboratory in the state.

In a communique from the Office of the Principal Director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare said, Dimapur Tourist Lodge is identified and designated as Quarantine Centre for the District, and the District Hospital is designated as COVID-19 Hospital in Dimapur.

In Kohima, designated Quarantine Centres have been identified and Chedema AYUSH Hospital as the COVID-19 Hospital. NHAK will also be converted to COVID-19 Hospital as and when the situation demands, it added.

COVID-19 Hospitals will exclusively examine and treat cases for Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) and Influenza-like Infection (ILI).

Till Wednesday, March 25, 2020, 1543 persons are under home quarantine in the state and 8 samples in total has been sent for testing of which 5 are negative and 3 results are awaited.

Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare also clarified that there is no Covid-19 Testing Centre in Nagaland due to lack Of Bio-Safety Level Laboratory anywhere in the State both in Government and private establishment.

The samples are collected in all the districts hospitals and sent in a special Viral Transport Medium (VTM) to the designated Lab, identified by the Government of India.

All the Deputy Superintendent of Police have identified specific vehicles to transfer the samples to the Labs at the earliest.

The Principal Director also appeals to the public not to spread rumours and to verify such news or information with the concerned district authority.
