Kohima, June 10 (NEx): In a good news to Nagaland, the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla has nominated Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) into a 4-member national Committee, ‘To Review the Powers of Presiding Officers Under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution,” informed Dr. P. J. Antony, Commissioner & Secretary, NLA.
Antony in a press release said that, Speaker of Lok Sabha has nominated Sharingain Longkumer, NLA Speaker, into the committee of the Presiding Officers ‘To Review the Powers of Presiding Officers Under the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution and the Rules made Thereunder.’ The Committee, is headed by Dr. C.P. Joshi, Speaker, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, it said.
Dr. C.P. Joshi Speaker, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly is the chairperson, while, Dr. Surjya Narayana Patro, Speaker, Odisha Legislative Assembly, Vishweshwar Hedge Kageri, Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly and Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly are the members in this committee. A communication to this effect has been received from the Lok Sabha Secretariat today, informed Antony.
‘The only other representation from the North East in such a Committee of Presiding Officers is, Yumnan Kemchand Singh, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly in the Committee of the Presiding Officers to Examine the Matter of Financial Independence of Legislature Secretariat constituted by the Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha,’ Antony stated.
‘It is a well deserved recognition for the State of Nagaland as much as for Speaker, Longkumer. With Nagaland having its own share of Petitions under the 10th Schedule, his association with this Committee will be in the larger interest of Parliamentary democracy,’ said the press release.
Meanwhile, the Advisor IT, Science and Technology and NRE, Mmhonlumo Kikon, Advisor for School Education, KT Sukhalu, Advisor to Chief Minister of Nagaland, Abu Metha congratulated the speaker of Nagaland.
