Kohima, May 23 (NE): News bulletin from various sources and press releases by NagalandExpress on May 23, 2020 are as follows:

1. PDLSA Contributes to Quarantine Centres of Peren & Jalukie Sub-division

The Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) contributed Rice and other essential items to Quarantine Centres of Peren & Jalukie sub-division on May 23, 2020 at COVID-19 Control Room, ADC Office Jalukie.

The contributed items comprising of Dal 1 and half bag (45 kgs), potato 3 bags, egg 2 dozens, soap 2 dozens, toothpaste 25 nos. and 5 litres of mustard oil were handed over to CMO Peren in the presence of other Medical staff and SDPO Peren by Retainer Lawyer PDLSA, Asungbe.

Legal pamphlets in different acts and dialects were also handed over to Medical department for quarantines by the PDLSA.

2. WHG Online Platform Launched For Mon District

The World Help Group (WHG) online platform for Mon District was launched on May 22, 2020 at National Informatics Centre (NIC), Video Conference room in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Mon.

Nimith Agarwal, the founder of WHG said the Foundation has developed an online platform entirely dedicated to cater to the needs of the individuals and families whose livelihoods were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic on essential requirements such as food, rations and basic medicines. The platform has been developed by the WHG foundation in response to the COVID-19 crisis. At present, the platform is in India and 15 other countries. This is the first of its kind in Nagaland. Mon District Administration has tied up with WHG foundation to ensure that the poor and downtrodden communities get the help and assistance through this development.

3. Assam Rifles Conduct Various Activities

Provision of Drinking Water for Quarantine Facility at Medziphema Town

With critical paucity of water in maintaining a 80 bedded quarantine facility set up at the Corporative Training Centre, Medziphema, Ghaspani Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) assisted the District Administration in providing water on May 23, 2020.

Provision of Water Pipeline to Kusong Village, Noklak

To alleviate hardship of residents faced with longstanding scarcity of safe potable drinking water in the village, Shamatore Battalion of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) facilitated water pipeline for residents of Kusong. The Battalion also assisted residents in ferrying the pipeline and it’s subsequent installation at the water source. Kusong is a remote village in Noklak Sub-Division along the Indo-Myanmar Border.

4. Agriculture Department Officials visit Farmers Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

Amidst the growing nationwide COVID-19 pandemic, officials from the Directorate of Agriculture visited farmers in Mokokchung district on May 22 – 23, 2020.

During the visit, awareness on preventive measures and agricultural advisories against COVID-19 were taught to the farmers. Issues and problems faced by the farmers were also deliberated including crop damages caused by natural calamities and insect-pests infestations. Field inspection of affected areas was also carried out by the officials.

Around 500 numbers each of face masks and hand soaps were also supplied by the visiting team to be distributed to the farmers. The visit was headed by Letkholal Hangsing, Joint Director and Dr. James Kuba, Deputy Director, Directorate of Agriculture, Kohima along with officials and staff from the District Agriculture Office, KVK and ATMA, Mokokchung. The district officers were further appraised to remain vigilant and dedicated towards the service of the farmers during the current global economic crisis.

5. Returnees from Chennai reach Kohima

The returnees of Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Wokha, Phek, Kiphire and Zunheboto who came from special Shramik Train from Chennai to Dimapur reached Kohima IG Stadium at 1:49 am on May 23, 2020.

A total of 399 returnees which included Kiphire – 52, Wokha – 37, Zunheboto – 17, Longleng – 8, Phek – 45, Mokokchung – 17, Kohima – 50 and Tuensang – 173 were received by Jt. Secretary Border Affairs and Convenor of Reception Centre, Jamithung Lotha; ADC Kohima & Co Convenor of Reception Centre, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa; CMO Kohima Dr. Vezokholu and her medical team and other district and Police officials at IG Stadium, Kohima.

On their arrival, the returnees were made to wash their hands set up at the entry point followed by thermal screening, data entry and other necessary safety protocols were conducted by the management team, after which they were escorted to Meriema Quarantine Centre, Kohima.
