Kohima, May 18 (NE): News bulletin from various sources and press releases by NagalandExpress on May 18, 2020 are as follows:

1. Briefing on COVID-19 on May 18, 2020 for Nagaland

The Principal Secretary, Home, Abhijit Sinha, briefing on COVID-19 on May 18, 2020 for Nagaland said that as of 4 P.M. today, a total of ­­961 samples of suspected cases have been sent for testing from the State. The results of 914 samples have been received and all have been tested negative. The results for the remaining 47 samples are awaited. In addition a total of 25 samples have been tested by Truenat and all are negative.

A total of 2967 persons have been screened and 1352 persons are presently under Facility Quarantine.

2. AH & Veterinary Services Dept. informs on ‘Ban on Import of Pigs’

Additional Director & HoD AH & Veterinary Services, Dr. Budhi Lama has informed that “Ban on Import of Pigs” into Nagaland has been enforced w.e.f. 29th April 2020 due to outbreak of “African Swine Fever” disease in Assam & Arunachal Pradesh.

In this regards, the Village functionaries/ Public/ Consumers of Nagaland especially district of Dimapur, Wokha, Mon, Longleng & Peren which are bordering Assam & Arunachal Pradesh have been requested to remain vigil and refrain from importing/ smuggled live pigs and pork cuts from Assam/ Arunachal Pradesh as “African Swine Fever” disease is highly infectious with very high mortality rate upto 100% .

At present, treatment and vaccine are not available and the only option is to cull, humane slaughter and dispose the pig. It can wipe out the entire pig population in the outbreak area/ colony/ village/ district etc. causing huge economic loses. Accordingly, this information is issued for public awareness and dissemination.

3. DC Longleng Informs on arrival of new persons

The Deputy Commissioner Longleng M. Shayung Phom has informed to all the parents/guardians of the returnees from outside the state to report at the COVID-19 war room with effect from 18th May 2020 for the purpose of signing an “undertaking on quarantine”. Further the parents/guardians are also asked to submit the following items to be used by their child/children/relatives during the Quarantine period. 1. Blankets 2. Pillows 3. Mattress 4. Bedsheets & pillow covers 5. Buckets & mugs 6. Mosquito net (if available). Or Contact COVID-19 War room numbers: 9612338646 / 7085961147 for any queries.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed all the village council chairman and ward presidents of Longleng town to report the new arrivals of new person/persons at their respective jurisdiction to COVID-19 War Room contact number. (9612338646/7085961147) as it is anticipated that they will be coming from the red zones which is highly vulnerable for infection to COVID-19.

4. Baily Baptist College & Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Requisitioned For Quarantine Facility

Deputy Commissioner & Chairman District Task Force for COVID-19 Wokha, Orenthung Lotha informed that in view of the emergent situation out of the COVID-19 pandemic and in exercise of the powers conferred by the Nagaland Epidemic Diseases Covid-19 Regulation 2020, and under Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 section-19 (VII & IX) and section 65 of the Disaster management Act 2005, the following building and its premises namely Baily Baptist college & Don Bosco Higher Secondary school have been requisitioned and will be kept at the disposal of the District Administration, Wokha for use as quarantine facility.

5. ADC calls emergency meeting at Tening

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Rhosietho Nguori has called for an emergency meeting at Tening Town Hall on May 20, 2020 at 2:00 pm.

The Tening Sub Divisional Task Force, all Committee Convenors along with head of offices will chalk out the action plan in the meeting.
