1. Number of Coronavirus cases rise to 315 in India, First case reported in Assam

The Number of coronavirus cases rise to 315 in India as on Saturday, March 21, 2020, 10:45 pm. The total number includes, 244 Indians and 39 foreign nationals. Out of the total cases, 23 patients have been cured and discharged, death toll remains at four, says ICMR.

Assam has reported state’s first coronavirus case. A four-and-a-half-year-old girl has tested positive for COVID19 infection in Jorhat. Her samples have been sent to ICMR for reconfirmation.

2. Nagaland Government clarifies on Janta Curfew

The Government of Nagaland has clarified that the Janta Curfew on 22nd March 2020 called by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi is voluntary and self-imposed and is not being enforced by the State Government. However, the State Government appealed all citizens to show solidarity towards the called made by the Hon’ble Prime Minister and to voluntarily stay indoor during the period from 7 am to 9 pm on 22nd March 2020.

3. Nagaland SAG review meeting held

A review meeting of the Special Action Group (SAG) on COVID-19 was held under the chairmanship of Home Commissioner, Abhijit Sinha, IAS at his Office Chambers on 21st March 2020. The meeting discussed on various preparatory measures and steps taken by the State Government to contain the spread of the virus.

Principal Director, Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Vizolie Suokhrie reiterated that every individual entering the state should contact Covid-19 helpline no: 7005435243, 9856071745, 7005539653 and Toll Free no: 1070 or Email: and mandatorily self-quarantine for a minimum of 14 days. He also informed that ICUs and Isolation wards have been set up in all the District Hospitals and all the MSs have been directed to prepare for expansion of isolation wards in their respective hospitals if and when required.

OSD, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Jonny Rongmei informed that awareness information and advisories on COVID-19 have been prepared in various local languages to be dispatched to all the Districts of the State. The Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission will act as a network channel through the Self Help Groups to disseminate the information to all the village of the State.

The SAG listed few other advisories and stringent measures to be adopted which the Home Commissioner would notify after the approval of higher authority.

4. School Education Department informs

In pursuance of Government Notifications dated 17th March 2020, ordering closure of all Education Institutions in the State w.e.f. 17th March 2020 till the 12th April 2020, the Principal Director, School Education, Shanavas C, IAS has informed all DEOs/Sr. SDEOs/SDEOs to instruct the Principals/Headmasters/Head Teachers to adhere to the following instructions to ensure that MDM food grains are delivered to the students as per their entitlement during the school closure period within their respective jurisdictions, as per their entitlement during the school closure period.

This information is also to be conveyed to the NGOs partnering with Department for implementing the MDM Scheme like ECS, PCDS and the NCLP for ensuring that the food grain reaches the children.

5. New health Sub-Centre at Pellhang Village inaugurated

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Peren, Dr. Dennis Hangsing inaugurated a new Health Sub-Centre at Pellhang Village under Ahthibung Block on 20th March 2020. The plaque was unveiled by CMO Peren and dedicatory prayer was led by Rev. Janglam Singson.

Addressing the gathering, CMO Peren mentioned that the health centre at Pellhang village is the 18th Sub-Centre under Peren District. In his short speech, he appealed to the village health authority and the community to take ownership of the new Health Sub-Centre provided. He further urged them to extend full support to the nurse and staff and also avail the services offered by the Medical Department.

The inaugural function was also attended by DTO cum Dy. CMO, Dr. Supongmenla, DPM Peren, Elizabeth, ANM Pellhang S.C, Rongdiliu, G.B. & Village Council of Pellhang Village and villagers. The programme was chaired by VHC Pellhang Chairman, Khupseh and vote of thanks was proposed by Head G.B Pellhang, Seikhohao.
