Kohima, September 10 (NEx): Due to the pandemic and creation of new district, farmers in distress are to be helped out since farming is the back-bone of any society.
The Superintendent of Police, Noklak Dr. Pritpal Kaur, IPS along with Khiamniungians Tribal Council (KTC) in an endeavor to assist farmers provided vegetable seeds and organized a seminar on cultivation and growth model on farming to the farmers of Noklak to enhance their income on September 09, 2020.
The SP said, ‘I got the seeds of vegetables like onion, carrot etc and will get potatoes, rice and other seeds needed by farmers soon. Many of them have given us the demands of what they wants, this will help them in increasing their income and livelihood’.
The farmers were divided in batches of 20 each following the SOP and to maintain the guidelines issued to prevent the spread of Corona. The SP also said that they will be doing it on a regular basis. Since its a new district and many departments are in arriving stage, the SP said that they will focus on income enhancement, encouragement of SHGs, local vendor’s market and enhancement of livelihood of farmers, since farmers are the backbone of our society.
Hence, a seminar was organised and lectures on sowing and cultivation technique were given alongwith specifics of the veggies, photos and videos. First batch of 20 farmers were provided seeds yesterday. Next batch of 20 farmers will also be given soon, she added.
SP said that, “Moreover, being a Punjabi, I am also fond of farming, so, I decided to help out farmers in this pandemic time. Jai jawan jai Kisaan” – unquote.
