Nagaland very close to the final solution; CM Neiphiu Rio

Kohima, December 1 (NE): Nagaland celebrates its 57th Statehood Day today, a state level celebration programme of Nagaland Statehood held at Khuochiezie, Kohima local ground this morning, December 1, 2019.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in his speech recalling the first statehood day, said- It was on this very ground that Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then President of India inaugurated Nagaland as the 16th State of the Union of India on the 1st of December, 1963.

The world is changing rapidly in recent times. While changes create challenges, it also brings opportunities. On this day, let us once again resolve to rededicate ourselves for working steadfastly towards making Nagaland one of the most admired and developed States in India, CM Rio said.

The quest for a final solution to the Naga political issue continues till today. Negotiations between the various Naga Political Groups and the Government of India have concluded, CM Rio said in his statehood address. We are poised on the verge of history being made as we could be very close to the final solution.

Chief Minister acknowledged the determination and commitment of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland and Centre’s Interlocutor Shri R.N.Ravi for carrying forward the peace process; bringing successful conclusion of the negotiations on a positive note.

My Government conveys its deep appreciation to all the negotiating parties for showing magnanimity, a spirit of understanding and foresightedness for achieving breakthrough in the talks; being able to reach common ground on all the issues that were being negotiated, CM Rio added.

As we continue with our pursuit for the final settlement, we also remain steadfast in our commitment for ensuring progress and development for the people of Nagaland in all spheres. Let’s be aware that many of the development efforts is possible only with peace, good law and order situation, CM Rio said in his speech.

Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Cabinet Misters, MLA & Advisors, Chief Secretary, GoI, Nagaland DGP along with others were part of the Statehood programme today.

CM Neiphiu Rio Awarded the Gordon Graham prize for Naga Literature 2019, Non fiction category to Rev. Dr. Fr. Abraham Lotha and Dr Neikehienuo Mepfhu-o in the fiction category.

CM Neiphiu Rio also released the book “Winning The Lost Battle” Assam Rifles & The battle of Kohima.

Other programs include drill display by 15 IR platoon, demonstration (STF), March past by DEF, NAP and others to mark the Statehood day.

Indian Air Force also participated in the celebration of statehood day with 3 Sukhoi aircraft flying over Kisama site which has been organised in close coordination between state government and head quarter, eastern air command (IAF) Shillong.

Hon’ble President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Former INC President, MP, Rahul Gandhi, Union Ministers, Nagaland Governor, R.N.Ravi, among the others greeted the people of Nagaland on the Statehood day.
