Kohima, June 18 (NEx): Contact numbers, email ID, addresses and other details of at least 915 students are available for sale through e-commerce website, Amazon India for Rs 299/-.
What could be described as a major data breach, Nagaland Students’ Database of Class XII, CBSE students, 2019-2020 batch is available for purchase in a downloadable Google Drive Link in Excel sheet format, in Amazon India online shopping portal.
Seller claims that a total of 915 contacts including the student’s name, father’s name, contact number, email id, school name, district details with pin code are available for sale through Amazon India.
The Database is sold and shipped by a seller, ‘Shastri Nagar Charkya Puri‘, at a cost of Rs 299.00. The seller also claims that these are verified and latest data. Meanwhile, the source of this data isn’t clear, and the seller has not given out any further information on this database.
The data market is where sensitive details of students and others are openly available for purchase via online portal, but this could be the first time a sale of such data is happening through the e-commerce giant Amazon.
Various parents have already raised concern on this matter. While many have already reported the item to Amazon, but till the filing of this report, the item was not removed by the e-commerce giant, Amazon.
