Nagaland Observes World Rabies Day

Kohima, September 28 (NEx): World Rabies Day is celebrated World wide on September 28th every year with the goal to make the world “Zero Rabies’ by 2030. To Commemorate the 14th World Rabies day, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Nagaland, conducted a free Anti-rabies vaccination throughout the state, with the Theme “End Rabies: Collaborate: Vaccinate”.

Rabies is a 100% fatal zoonotic disease which is transmitted from animals to human and vice-versa. It is reported that in India, there are about 18,000-20,000 deaths due to rabies every year.

Director of AH & VS urged the public that along with the global adoption of 2030 as the goal for the elimination of Rabies, the Municipalities and Panchayats, towns and village councils, stakeholders should co-ordinate and co-operate for compulsory vaccination of dogs.

Celebration of World Rabies Day at Longleng:

In commemoration to the World Rabies Day today, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Longleng conducted a one day Anti Rabies immunisation and awareness program, under the theme “End Rabies, Collaborate, Vaccinate” at public local ground Longleng on September 28, 2020. All dogs above the age of 3 months were vaccinated and altogether 200 dogs were vaccinated.
