Nagaland observes the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women today

Kohima, November 25 (NE): Along with the rest of the world, Nagaland state observes International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women. The theme for 2019 is ‘Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape’. Starting November 25, 2019, 16-days activism campaign against gender-based violence will go underway till December 10, 2019.

Nagaland observes the day with a Walkathon – walk for Elimination of Violence Against Women in the state capital, Kohima. Walkathon started from Old MLA junction and ended at Directorate of Social Welfare, Kohima. The programme was jointly organized by Social Welfare Department, State Women Commission, Sate Resources Center for Women, Women Helpline Number Nagaland, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, BBBP.

Daisy Mezhur, Secretary, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board and Mission Director, State Resource Centre for Women, Gracy Ayee, State Coordinator, SRCW, Bano Vinito, Chairperson, NSSWB along with others lead the Walkathon at Kohima. Hundreds of people joined the walk to show their support for the cause this morning.

The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden.
