Kohima, January 29 (NEx): Nagaland mourns the demise of Temjen Toy, Chief Secretary of Nagaland, who passed away on January 28, 2021, at his residence in Kohima. Condolences poured in for the departed soul from all over the state and across including the Governor of Nagaland RN Ravi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Leader of Opposition TR Zeliang and many other leaders along with different organizations, Hohos, Unions, etc.
Governor RN Ravi condoles:
Governor RN Ravi in a condolence message said, he is extremely saddened and shocked at the untimely demise of Shri Temjen Toy, IAS, the Chief Secretary to Government of Nagaland on January 28th, 2021 at Kohima.
The message reads, ‘We have lost an able administrator and one of the finest human being. He was a warm hearted and a cheerful human being. As an administrator he was always willing to take on difficult responsibilities and made his mark as a conscientious public servant. His contribution to the people of Nagaland in various assignments will be remembered for ever’.
The Governor offered heartfelt condolences to the wife Mrs. Ruovi Toy and family at this moment of profound tragedy, and pray the Almighty God to give strength and fortitude to the family members to bear this devastating loss and eternal peace to the departed soul.
CM Neiphiu Rio condoles:
The Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated, ‘I am extremely saddened at the passing away of Temjen Toy, Chief Secretary of Nagaland. He was a humble, upright and dedicated government servant. His death is a huge loss for the Govt. of Nagaland & for the Nagas as a whole. Heartfelt condolences to his family. May his soul RIP’- unquote.
T. R Zeliang condoles:
Meanwhile, the Leader of Opposition, T.R Zeliang expressed shock and pain on the demise of Shri Temjen Toy, Chief Secretary of Nagaland.
Zeliang stated that the demise is a great loss to the Nagas particularly the State Government which he had served all this years with utmost sincerity and commitment.
He recalled Temjen Toy as a brilliant bureaucrat who never compromised with his assigned duties and responsibilities during his tenure under various capacities of the State Government.
The condolence message reads, ‘We shared some very good moments as contemporaries, as a family friend and as a brother. During my tenure as Chief Minister, he was Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and I found him to be a person with few words who was sharp, patient and dedicated to his work. He possessed a rare ability of being able to coordinate with various machineries of the Government in the best way possible.
Late Temjen Toy gave his best to the Society and his contribution to the welfare of the State and its citizens will be forever cherished’.
The LoP prayed that God grant peace and solace to all the bereaved family members and all his near and dear ones during this time of grief and sorrow. ‘May the departed soul rest in eternal peace’.
The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party condoles the demise of Temjen Toy, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Nagaland.
In its condolence message, the NDPP recalls Temjen Toy as, ‘Hailing from an illustrious family, his personality and character were exemplary of this fact: never known to raise his voice or exhibit his displeasure even in dire situations, he was the epitome of what a leader ought to be – compassionate, tolerant and assuring towards all. He was loved, appreciated, admired and looked up to by all who had the opportunity to have worked with him; and the public he administered in various capacities have only good things to say about him’.
‘He was the personification of a bureaucrat with a human face. A brilliant person, he was knowledgeable in almost all subjects of life and mentored, advised his subordinates on how they should perform and dispense their duties. Most importantly, he was God-fearing and totally distanced himself from actions that would be displeasing in the eyes of the Almighty and the people.
He was upheld and considered as a trouble-shooter in the bureaucratic circles since his mere presence was a soothing balm to the disputing parties who invariably accepted his judicious
suggestions for resolutions to differences; and the State Government, no matter the political affiliations which ran it, greatly benefited from his contributions in various capacities’- unquote.
The NDPP stated that in his passing away, Nagaland has lost a gem of a person, an administrator and an officer the like of whom we may never have again in several lifetimes. He possessed all characteristics that an individual could pray for and was a model for the younger generation, the party said.

The National People’s Party jn a condolence message stated that Late Shri Temjen Toy Nagaland Chief Secretary was a man of rare acumen who possessed high quality of workmanship, quite courage, immense wisdom and undoubtedly a beautiful soul.

Naga Hoho expressed profound sadness and sorrow over the sudden demise of Late Temjen Toy IAS, Chief Secretary of Nagaland who passed away on January 28th, 2021 after a prolonged illness at Kohima.

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) mourns the untimely demise of one of the senior most bureaucrat of the state.
DNSU pays its highest respect for the contribution made by Eno. Lt. Temjen Toy, IAS, Chief Secretary, Batch of 1989 in every field wherever he could through this career, the condolence message from DNSU read.
