Nagaland likely to receive thunderstorm & heavy rainfall till May 21, says IMD

Kohima, May 17 (NE): The weather forecast bulletin by the National Weather Forecasting Centre, India Meteorological Department, Ministry Of Earth Sciences forecasts heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at isolated places in Nagaland, and other Northeast states from May 17 to May 21.

IMD bulletin forcast thunderstorm accompanied with lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) at isolated places over Nagaland, Assam & Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram from May 18 to 21, 2020.

The Cyclonic storm ” AMPHAN”

The Meteorological department has warned that a depression in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea till May 20.

“It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours and further into a severe cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards initially till May 17 and then re-curve north-northeastwards across northwest Bay of Bengal towards West Bengal and adjoining Odisha coasts during May 18-20, 2020” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a warning.
