Nagaland introduces ‘MISSION X5’ to Upscale COVID-19 Testing

Nagaland introduces 'MISSION X5' to Upscale COVID-19 Testing in the state

Kohima, July 16 (NEx): The Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare Nagaland, Dr. Neikhrielie Khimiao addressing the Chief Medical Officer/ Medical Superintendent of all Districts in Nagaland through an order dated July 15th, 2021 informed on ‘MISSION X5’- Directions and Guidelines on measures to Upscale COVID-19 Testing in the state.

The Principal Director said that as per the direction by the High Powered Committee on COVID-19 Pandemic to scale up on COVID-19 Testing in the State, ‘MISSION X5’- Directions and Guidelines on measures to Upscale
COVID-19 Testing has been developed to guide and facilitate the Chief Medical Officer/ Medical Superintendent/ District Task Force to ramp up the COVID-19 testing.

Khimiao directed all Chief Medical Officer/ Medical Superintendent to ensure the COVID-19 testing target assigned to the district is achieved.

He also informed that COVID-19 Testing in Nagaland is lowest in the Country at 112330 per million as compared to National average of 310790 per million. The Positivity Rate will be high if the number of positive tests is too high, or if the number of total tests is too low. A higher percent positive suggests higher transmission and that there are likely more people with Coronavirus in the community who haven’t been tested yet. The positivity rate is presently at around 7% in the State with wide inter district
variations, Khimiao noted.

He asserted that testing is not only a vital epidemiological tool but also help people determine if they are infected or not. Only through testing, cases including those who have no symptoms can be detected, isolated and treated, he added.

Further, with the details of contacts provided by the confirmed cases, persons who have come in contact with the confirmed case can be traced, tested, isolated and treated. Thus breaking the chain of transmission and preventing the virus from replication and mutation.

The ‘MISSION X5’ directions & guidelines includes Expansion of RAT Testing Facilities, Microplanning, Intensive Awareness Campaign, Surveillance and Testing, Supplies & Logistics, HR Requirements and Sentinel Surveillance for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS).
