Nagaland Government to distribute relief package to 30,000 daily wagers affected by the lockdown

Kohima, June 14 (NEx): Nagaland Government directed the Chairman of all 12 District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to provide relief pack of essential commodities to mitigate the hardships being faced by daily wage labourers during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Earlier, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio informed, ‘To mitigate the hardships caused to distressed persons and daily wage earners, the state government will continue its assistance activities by distributing food rations through the District Task Forces’.

According to the Home Department, Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, a total of 30,000 beneficiaries are to be distributed the relief package, such as rice and other essential commodities.

Based on the reports submitted by the DDMAs, including the packaging and handling expenses, a total of Rs 1.65 crores is estimated to provide essential relief packages to 30,000 beneficiaries in 12 districts. This is excluding the rice, which will be provided to the Districts by the Department of Food & Civil Supplies.

The Principal Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, R Ramakrishnan IAS through an official communication on June 10, 2021, directed all DDMAs to take urgent steps for preparation of relief package and get them delivered to daily wage earners in distress at the earliest.
