Nagaland Govt. Announces 7 Days Mourning on Pranab Mukherjee’s Death

Government of Nagaland has announced with profound grief the demise of Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India at army research and referral hospital, New Delhi on August 31st, 2020

Kohima, August 31 (NEx): Government of Nagaland has announced with profound grief the demise of Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India at army research and referral hospital, New Delhi on August 31st, 2020.

As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, seven days state mourning will be observed throughout Nagaland from August 31st, 2020 to September 06th, 2020 both days inclusive.

During the period of state mourning the National Flag will fly at half mast on all buildings throughout the state where it is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment. A communique from the Chief Secretary Nagaland has requested all to take action accordingly.

Nagaland Governor, R.N Ravi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Y Patton, Leader of Opposition, and former CM TR Zeliang, INC Nagaland President, K Therie, Legislators, Govt. Officials condole the demise of former President and Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee.

Taking to twitter, Governor R.N Ravi said, Shri Pranab Mukherjee dedicated his life to the service of the Nation. A statesman who significantly shaped the course of modern Indian history and through his personal conduct left a legacy of value based politics. In his departure the country has lost a great son!

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in his condolence message said that, ‘I am deeply sadden to hear about the demise of the Former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi today. Late Pranab Mukherjee was a towering personality of India and will be remembered as a staunch congressman and Parliamentarian and a much respected president of the country.

Highlighting on Pranab Mukherjee’s close bond with Naga people, Rio said, he last visited the Nagaland State in 2013 and graced Nagaland Statehood day and Hornbill Festival celebration and the Naga people still recollect memorable experiences of his visit.

Nagaland joins the rest of the country in bereavement and paying respect to the departed leader. Further, on behalf of the people of Nagaland and the Government of Nagaland, CM offer deepest condolences on the demise of Shri Mukherjee. His demise is indeed an irreparable loss to the nation, CM Rio added.

Leader of Opposition, and Former CM TR Zeliang said that the demise of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee will leave behind a huge vacuum in India. He was a fine statesman who, through sheer intellect and wisdom, thrived and achieved enviable accomplishments in his life. Deepest condolences to his near and dear ones.

Indian National Congress, Nagaland State President, K Therie tweets, ‘Shocked and saddened by the demise Pranab ji. I was wishing and praying for his early recovery for I had hope in him to unite the nation from religion divide.’
