Nagaland Government imposes total ban on all Single Use Plastic in the state

Dimapur, June 21: The Nagaland Government has imposed total ban on all Single-Use Plastic in the state from October 2019, with a view to eradicate the menace of plastic and the serious environmental and ecological challenges posed by rampant use of plastics.

This was stated in a Nagaland Gazette Extraordinary Notification released on June 17, signed by S Nyanbemo Tsanglao, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland. It is in continuation of the State Government’s notification on November 29, 2018.

The notification directs all individual, shops, hotels, restaurants, industrial establishments, offices, educational institutions, religious institutions, banquet halls among others to follow the total ban.

It said any violation will incur penalties which will be imposed by the District Administration or Local Bodies in their jurisdiction. In this direction, a District Task Force has already been constituted in the respective Districts to strictly monitor and function as Squads for vigilance purpose and ensure imposing of total ban on stocking, distribution, sale and use of all single-use plastics.

The notification stated that a total ban on all single-use plastics in the entire State of Nagaland will come into effect beginning from the month of October.

The time frame is given in the public interest and for the manufacturers, stockiest, shopkeepers to dispose off their stocks so that no financial loss is caused to them.

The decision to this effect was decided by the state Cabinet during the meeting held on 10th of this month.
