Kohima, January 15 (NEx): The Government of Nagaland on Friday, felicitated the Dzukou valley Fire warriors who fought tirelessly to douse off the wild fire at Dzükou valley in a program held at DC Complex Kohima.
The forest fire in Dzukou valley raging since December 29th, 2020 was finally doused by a combined team effort of the Indian Army, IAF, NDRF and the state disaster management team alongwith volunteers after 14 days of tiring efforts on January 11th, 2021.
The PRO (Def) Kohima, Lt Col Sumit K Sharma informed that the State administration had requisitioned the Army on January 7th, 2021 and one army column was promptly deployed on the same day.
The Army column comprising of two Officers, two Junior Commissioned Officers and 48 other Ranks steadfastly took over the task and doused the fire at an altitude of 2452 ft in 48 hrs and also created several fire lanes to arrest the spread.
As recognition of their selfless efforts, the State Govt organised a Felicitation ceremony at Deputy Commissioner Complex Kohima. The team was felicitated by the state auth for their hard work on January 15th, 2021.
Officers and Soldiers of Spear Corps received the token of appreciation on behalf of the entire team from Shri Abhijeet Sinha, Home Commissioner and CEO NSDMA. The State administration expressed their gratitude for the prompt response and support from the Army.
A DIPR report said that the other awardees of the felicitation program included Indian Air Force, DEF Kohima, Home Guards & Civil Defence, SDRF, NDRF, 4th NAP, Assam Rifles, Police Wireless, 1st Assam Rifles, 164 TA, Medical Department, DPRO, DDMA, Fire & Emergency Services, SAPO, SAYO, Forest Department and PWD R&B (South Division).
Home Commissioner and CEO, NSDMA Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha IAS, Advisor Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr Neikiesalie Kire & Advisor for Technical Education and Elections, Medo Yhokha along with DC & SP of Kohima and others were present at the Felicitation program.
