Dimapur, September 19 (NEx): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on Saturday, September 19, 2020 served four (4) days ultimatum to the State government to revoke the COVID-19 cess on Petroleum products.
In an ultimatum submitted to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland via, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, the DNSU raised serious concern over COVID-19 cess on Petrol and Diesel and called the state to revoke the hike.
The Union also urged the government to be more responsible and not rely upon the general public to meet the state financial exigencies at this crucial period of time.
Reminding on its earlier appeals on the same issue, DNSU stated that it has already put up in the press media twice on June 11 & September 13, 2020, but the government has failed to turn ears and relax the COVID-19 cess on fuel till this day.
The DNSU in its third union assembly meeting alongwith all its constituent units have discussed and affirmed to give four (4) days ultimatum from the date of submitting this letter to revoke the state COVID-19 cess on petroleum products.
It also warned that if the government ignored again, the Union along with all it’s constituent units will close down all the petroleum outlets within its jurisdiction and supply from every entries indefinitely.
The Government of Nagaland has imposed COVID-19 cess of Rupees 5 per litre on diesel and Rupees 6 per litre on Petrol & other motor spirit since April 28, 2020 across the State.
The signatories in the ultimatum submitted to the Chief Minister of Nagaland includes DNSU, Dimapur Sumi Students Union, Dimapur Lotha Students Union, Mao Students Union Dimapur, Zeliang Students’ Union Dimapur, Dimapur Rengma Students’ Union, Tangkhul Students’ Union Dimapur, Ao Students Union Dimapur, Chakhro Angami Students Union, Rongmei Students Union Dimapur, Chakhesang Students Union Dimapur, Poumai Students Union Dimapur, Pochury Students Union Dimapur.
