Kohima, June 05 (NEx): In a benevolent gesture amid the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic, a group of social media friends from different walks of life came together and extended support to an Old Age Home at Meriema, under Kohima district of Nagaland.
The M-WhatsApp friends concerned over the pandemic period made a free will contribution amounting to around Rs 1 lakh as a goodwill gesture towards the 25 elderly people at the Old Age Home managed by the Good Samaritan Women Society Kohima.
Four members of the M-WhatApp Group handed over cash Rs 1 lakh and essential commodities worth Rs 15,000 to the proprietor of Old Age Home, Neithonuo T. Leigise on June 4th, 2021.
According to K Elu Ndang, an active member of the group, expressed concern towards the welfare of the inmates and said that it has been learnt that the State government has not been extending any support to the Old Age Home for the last couple of years.
The Group members, therefore urged the state government and the Health and Family Welfare Department to extend the needed services and health care towards the elderly people especially during the pandemic period.
